Home Drug Test Kits – The Basics
Why might one want to use a home drug test? There are many reasons – to determine if someone you love is doing drugs, to help keep someone in the process of getting clean disciplined, to see if someone is being honest to you about their problem, to see if someone who is in recovery is clean enough to pass a drug test for work.
We offer many types of home drug tests. Depending on your needs, a test that uses hair or urine samples may be appropriate. For more information on the types of tests available, please see any one of the categories on the left sidebar.
Home Drug Test FAQ
What are the differences between the kits?
The primary differences between the variety of home drug tests we sell are sample type, detection time, and whether or not a laboratory is automatically involved. A hair test has a hair sample, a urine test has a urine sample, etc. The detection period for urine home tests is generally shorter than that of hair, although marijuana can remain in the urine (if you are a frequent/multiple times daily smoker) for up to 45 days or more. Our hair test requires that you send your sample to a laboratory; our other tests are rapid result screens.
Why should I home drug test?
There are, as we mentioned above, all kinds of reasons to drug test at home. Many rehab clinics incorporate drug testing into their programs because it keeps things objective and encourages the person taking the test to be honest. The 2010 National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Monitoring the Future drug survey found that there are more high school seniors smoking marijuana than there are smoking cigarettes. In short, drug use exists, and it has serious potential to mess up lives.
Are your tests accurate?
All of the home drug tests we offer are accurate. Our urine tests are FDA Cleared, while our hair analysis for the hair tests is performed at CLIA certified laboratories. Our home saliva test is 97% accurate and can detect if someone is currently high.
We are confident that our home drug tests will suit your needs and that we can answer any question you may have. If you have any questions about our products please give us a call at 1-888-448-5657 or send us an email at cs at homehealthtesting.com.
Home Drug Test Accuracy
The drug tests we sell are relied upon by government agencies, businesses, doctors, outpatient homes, and families everywhere due to their superior accuracy and reliability. The accuracy of each type of home drug test we sell (hair, urine, and saliva) is detailed below.
Accuracy of urine based tests
Each strip contains a Control and a Test region. The Control region allows you to see if the test is functioning correctly. A line should appear in the Control region (or Control regions, if your test is a multiple drug test) each time you test. Its appearance indicates that the test is working correctly and the results can be trusted.
The test uses the principle of drug competition to produce a result. In a urine sample containing drugs, the drugs will bind to the strip and prevent the formation of a line in the Test region. In a urine sample without drugs, the antibodies on the strip will react by producing a line. It is a thoroughly researched, tested and FDA cleared process, accepted by businesses and governments across America.
Our tests vary in accuracy from 97-99% but all are above the 95% threshold. These tests are widely used and generally, if someone’s test is negative, no further testing is performed and the person is considered clean.
Accuracy of hair based tests
Hair based testing is also an accurate way to screen someone for drug use. It is in fact more sensitive than urine drug testing, as its detection levels are much lower. Hair testing also indicates not just positive or negative, but how frequently someone uses a drug – low, medium, or high use (please note: this feature is available with all our hair tests except the PDT-90).
The only issue with the accuracy of hair drug testing is that marijuana is not always easy to detect. If someone smokes marijuana rarely it might not show up on the test. This is because THC has difficulty binding to the hair follicle. If you are interested in testing for marijuana exclusively urine drug testing is a more accurate method. All other drugs tested for by our hair drug tests are tested with great accuracy and at levels more sensitive than those of urine tests.
Accuracy of saliva based tests
Like urine drug tests, saliva drug tests are also 97-98% accurate, for a variety of drugs. Their detection levels are quite sensitive as well. Saliva testing specializes in short term use, which means you can find out if someone is currently high.
