The hair drug test is one of the most effective, and only, ways to determine long-term drug use in the home market. Each one and a half inch sample of hair reveals a 90 day drug history when analyzed by a laboratory. The hair test you purchase comes with the storage materials you will need for the hair, and a pre-addressed envelope to be sent off to the laboratory for confidential analysis.
It is impossible to tamper with your hair in such a way to alter the results of a hair drug test. This is because the laboratory evaluates how much of a particular drug’s molecules are embedded in your hair shaft. Anti-drug shampooing will not effect the hair or alter the results. This method also eliminates external contamination as a factor.
If you are concerned that you will be unable to collect hair from the head that is long enough for the test, note that two of our hair drug tests accept body hair submissions. Those tests are the Express HairConfirm Hair Drug Test and the Standard HairConfirm Hair Drug Test. You cannot mix body hair and head hair when submitting your test though. Body hair grows much more slowly than head hair and though tested the same way it must be evaluated differently due to the slow growth – if you were to mix the two types of hair, you wouldn’t have enough of either type to give you an accurate drug history.
A hair drug test does not have very complicated instructions and is easy to perform. It is not recommended however that you cut hair without the consent of the person whose hair is being cut. Hair from a hairbrush will be difficult to align the way you are supposed to, and also may not be exclusively from the person you want to test. This is an important point – when submitting a hair follicle drug test, you must be sure to keep all the hair in order, with all the root ends next to each other. This is necessary for the lab as they measure how far from the root the drug molecules are to determine drug history.
Hair drug testing is a very effective way to determine drug use. You can buy a hair follicle drug test that tests for 6 or 7 drugs. The drugs in common are marijuana, cocaine, opiates, methamphetamines, ecstasy and PCP. The 7th drug is amphetamines. Both PDT and HairConfirm lines are available. I have a problem, the hair that I want to send in is quite short and therefore it is hard to keep the roots aligned and not mixed upside down, how important is this to get a result if I just want to know if there was any use at all?

Thank you for your question! If the hair is longer than half an inch and there are at least 100-120 strands you will be fine. It is suggested that the roots are aligned but they will run the test for you if they are not. The approximate time frame represented by a half inch of hair from the head is 30 days. However, if you are planning to purchase the Legal Workplace Hair Drug Test Kit, they will have to run the hair as “anonymous” rather than as whomever signed the Custody and Control form if the roots are not properly aligned.

2 grams is not exactly a small amount and will probably show up on a hair drug test. The hair growth that will reflect the marijuana use will be above the scalp in Feb. A half inch reflects basically a month of drug history. Thanks, Robyn
i want my daughter testing for cocaine but she recently bleached her hair will it still show up that she has had cocaine from a hair strand?
Will alcohol show up in a hair follicle test? And would you happen to know if work place hair screening is different than probation hair screening on the most basic level of tests?
daily marijuana user greater than 6 months, stops using. after a week or so, all hair cut off head/body. Question, is the hair that grows after stopping “clean” of marijuana drug use? or is the THC metabolites still being deposited for weeks after or does it start to be clear after a negative urine sample. Is this the point the hair no long show metabolites.
This is a difficult question to answer. A head hair sample 0.5 inches in length will represent a timeframe of 30 days of use. Most samples are tested at 1.5 inches or a 90 day timeframe. If an individual removes all their hair and discontinues use, it is quite possible that their new growth hair will result as a negative. Much of this depends on the length of the collected hair, as well as unpredictable elements such as the amount of marijuana smoked, as well as the metabolism rate of the donor. It takes roughly 4-5 days for the metabolite to show up in the hair, so it is always possible that the sample will test positive.
