When stars fail drug tests, they attract a lot of attention and in most cases, their reputation seems to go down. The same is true of the average person too – nobody looks forward to failing a drug test.
Well, with the rise of prescription drug use and abuse, more and more people are facing a drug test failure. Someone taking prescription Adderall can take a standard urine test and find out they’re positive!
When taking Adderall, you will come up positive for amphetamines in a test. Informally known as speed, it was a popular drug especially in the 60s and 70s. Testing for amphetamines in a urine drug screen is extremely common, and even considered standard.
Adderall can be detected in your urine for about 2-4 days after use, perhaps longer depending on how much you take. The Adderall Drug Test we carry has a standard cutoff level of 1,000 ng/mL, which is what is suggested by SAMHSA (the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration). As early as 5-10 minutes after use, Adderall will show up positive on a saliva drug test – it stays in your saliva for up to 72 hours.

I bought a very cheep and standard Amphetamine drug test. It has a cutoff level of 1,000 ng/mL. I’m told by the company that it wont pick up on Adderall. do you think they are mistaken? I’m hoping they are.

I currently take 30 mg (prescribed) of adderall daily, which did NOT show up on a hair follicle test. Urinalysis results were 2,696 ng/ml positive for amphetamine, “cleared” with rx confirmation from pharmacy.
I’m trying to get an explanation of why the amphetamine didn’t show up in the standard, 5-panel hair screen. Note, I have very long, home-color-treated, hair. Does that make a difference? I thought hair tests the strand structure itself, so coloring shouldn’t skew the results?

Thank you for your question. It can be detected as an amphetamine in urine, saliva tests and some hair tests (the hair laboratory can tell you if they test for Adderall). Your hair being dyed should not have had an impact on the test at all.
Adderall is an amphetamine and that is why it comes up as one on urine and saliva tests. The HairConfirm hair drug test also tests for Adderall on their tests.

i work in a industry where they test me randomly for hair and urine analyses. recently my doctor wants me to be put on 10mg of ritalin. i am afraid to take ritalin. i do not want to get fired, i have a family. i would like o know if ritalin will be detectd in a hair follicle test.
So the ng/mL is just for blood/saliva? You say that it is only detected in the hair for 90 days. Are you assuming that a whole stand of hair has grown/fallen out after 90 days, or that the substance that is being tested for in the hair magically disappears after 90 days? The last time I took adderall was about 3 months ago, only a couple times (for finals, don’t have a prescription). If you only take it once will it show up in your hair? Or do you have to be a frequent user?

Unfortunately, I don’t know much about blood screens as we do not sell them. You might want to call a place like NMS labs or another larger laboratory and ask if those services are offered for Adderall.

If you show you have a prescription, it shouldn’t be a problem. Most hair tests do not detect Ritalin but rather illegal amphetamines. It could show up on a urine drug test though.

I am a pain-management patient, recently the doctor put me on Adderall, I do have ADHD but it was prescribed for narcolepsy,I am taking methadone, hydrocodone & Xanax.The doctor sent out a urine test and it did not show my pain meds, I faithfully take these pills sometimes less on a good day, I also drink 3 to 4 glasses of cranberry juice a day, could the adderal and or cranberry juice have caused this? I know methadone is a separate test but what about the hydrocodone & Xanax? If you can’t help me could you link me to someone that can? i was wondering i took a standard test for drug of choice on package it says and then on the strip you test with it says thc. So i took it and it showed positive. I have not smoked weed in 2 month but take adderhall would aderhall show up as positive on a thc drug test. It was only a 10 dollar test. I just took a real drug tets for my job an wont find out till next week. Ok I have to comment, I get tested for drugs and I take 90mg sometimes more of adderall. I take the salvia test the one that goes to the lab and takes two weeks. I know have 3 dirty drug test for meth, and I have not used any for over a year. READ!! There is a huge error in this blog. Ritalin is nothing like Adderall. Adderall is an amphetamine…that’s true. Ritalin is Methylphenidate, both drugs are used to treat both ADD & ADHD but Adderall is a stimulant like speed and Ritalin is not.

The drug test is not a zero tolerance test, in other words it only shows positive if you have a Detection Level over 1,000 ng/mL. Certain doses of Adderall will not show up on a drug test if it is the test is at the detection level of 1000 ng/mL.

I cannot believe how uninformed people are and keep putting junk inot their own bodies on their own free will and have no idea what consequences or health issues, failed drug tests that they may/not have. Educate yourself BEFORE you start taking ANY drug, street or prescription. As far as I am concerned the doctors r the worst kind of DEALERS there r. At least with the “street” drug dealers you get what you get because you want it, with the doctors writing a bunch of scripts people have no idea what might happen to them. Once you fail a drug test it does not matter how innocent you may be your reputation is ruined and you will likely lose your job or never even get through the door (and some people would not even know y). I took 90 mg of adderall and 8 percocets on a sunday night. I had a drug test on the upcoming friday. Just received a call that I failed the drug test and am too scared to call them back!! I cannot lose my subs over one mistake or I will never stay clean. So, my question is…do you think the addys showed up or the percs?? I would get in less trouble for the addys, considering I cannot EVER piss positive for opiates and still receive my suboxone. Such a stupid mistake for a little high.
