How It Works
- Activate the Tube: Squeeze to break the inner glass tube.
- Blow Through the Tube: Blow into the tube for 12 seconds.
- Observe Color Change: If the yellow crystals turn aqua (blue/green) within 2 minutes, alcohol has been detected.

Important Note:
This is not a self-test. Have someone who has not been drinking help you test and read the results. Wait 15 minutes after your last alcoholic drink or rinse your mouth with a glass of water before taking the test.
Steps to Perform the Test:
- Preparation:
- Bring the pouch to room temperature (15-30°C or 59-86°F) before opening.
- Remove the detector from the sealed pouch. Do not touch the mouthpiece to avoid contamination.
- Activate the Detector:
- Hold the middle of the detector.
- Firmly squeeze the detector to break the inner glass tube. Perform the test as soon as possible to avoid the effects of humidity.
- Important: Do not crush or bend the detector. Refer to the picture.
- Breathing into the Detector:
- For Breath Alcohol Detector without blow bag:
- Hold the middle of the detector horizontally. Take a deep breath.
- Blow hard into the mouthpiece in the same direction as the detector arrows for 12 seconds.
- Note: Failure to blow hard, or for 12 seconds, may cause false results. Do not inhale while blowing into the detector.
- Shake the detector slightly to distribute the crystals evenly in the test window.
Reading the Results:
- Light Conditions:
- Read the results under incandescent or fluorescent light, or indirect sunlight.
- Interpreting Crystal Color:
- Positive Result: If most of the crystals are a light aqua (green/blue or blue/green), the result is positive and the breath alcohol level is at or above the level printed on the detector.
- Negative Result: If most of the crystals are a light yellow, the result is negative and the breath alcohol level is below the level printed on the detector. The yellow does not have to match the unused detector's yellow and may be much lighter or paler yellow than an unused detector.
- Comparison:
- Compare the results to an unused detector or to the yellow box printed on the detector instructions.
