    • ADHD
    • Cardiac arrest
    • Low blood pressure

    Effects:

    • Euphoria
    • Alertness

A recent study conducted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) highlighted a significant association between the prevalence of prescription stimulant therapy for ADHD and the misuse of these drugs among teenagers. This study, using data from the Monitoring the Future survey, indicated that prescription stimulant misuse remains more prevalent than the misuse of any other prescription drugs among adolescents, including opioids and benzodiazepines. This underscores the importance of having effective drug testing methods to monitor and prevent misuse in schools, communities, and even within the family.

Common Amphetamines: This test can detect several common drugs in the amphetamines category, including:

    • Adderall (used for ADHD and narcolepsy)
    • Vyvanse (used for ADHD and binge eating disorder)
    • Dexedrine (used for ADHD and narcolepsy)
    • Evekeo (used for ADHD and narcolepsy)

*The Amphetamine urine drug test uses d-Amphetamine as the calibrator for the stated 1,000 ng/mL testing level. The following table lists the concentrations of compounds (ng/mL) that are detected as positive in this urine drug test:

    Compound

    Detection Level (ng/mL)

    d-Amphetamine

    1,000 ng/mL

    Vyvance

    1,562 ng/mL

    d,l-Amphetamine

    3,000 ng/mL

    l-Amphetamine

    50,000 ng/mL

    Phentermine

    3,000 ng/mL

With this home drug test, once the urine sample is collected, you will have your result within 5 minutes. The results are very easy to read:

    • Negative Result: Two lines will appear—one in the Control Region and one in the Test Region.
    • Positive Result: No line will appear in the Test Region, but a line will appear in the Control Region, indicating that the test was conducted successfully.

A positive result means that the drug concentration in the urine sample is greater than the designated cutoff/detection level for amphetamines.

    DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Allow the test card and/or test strip, urine specimen, and/or controls to reach room temperature (15-30 degrees Celsios) prior to testing.

    DIRECTIONS FOR SINGLE TEST CARD

    1. Bring the pouch to room temperature before opening it. Remove the test card from the sealed pouch and use it as soon as possible.
    2. Remove the cap.
    3. With the arrow pointing toward the urine specimen, immerse the test card vertically in the urine specimen for at least 10 to 15 seconds. Immerse the strip to at least the level of the wavy lines, but not above the arrow on the test card. Replace the cap and place the test card on a non-absorbent flat surface.
    4. Start the timer and wait for the colored line(s) to appear.
    5. The result should be read at 5 minutes. Results may be stable up to 1 hour after test initiation.

    INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS

NEGATIVE:* Two lines appear. One colored line should be in the control region (C), and another apparent colored line should be in the test region(T). This negative result indicates that the marijuana concentration is below the detectable level (50 ng/mL).

*NOTE: The shade of color in the test line region (T) will vary, but it should be considered negative whenever there is even a faint line.

POSITIVE: One colored line appears in the control region (C). No line appears in the test region (T). This positive result indicates that the marijuana concentration exceeds the detectable level (50 ng/mL).

INVALID: Control line fails to appear. Insufficient specimen volume or incorrect procedural techniques are the most likely reasons for control line failure. Review the procedure and repeat the test using a new test card or test strip. If the problem persists, discontinue use of the lot immediately and contact your distributor.

    1. What are amphetamines?

Answer: Amphetamines are stimulant drugs, often referred to as "uppers," that produce feelings of wakefulness, increased energy, and focus. They can be ingested, snorted, smoked, or injected. Historically, amphetamines were commonly known as "speed." Today, there is some confusion as "speed" can also refer to methamphetamines, which are much stronger and more potent than amphetamines. Common prescription forms of amphetamines include Adderall and Vyvanse, which are used to treat conditions like ADHD and narcolepsy.

    2. How can I tell if my family member is misusing amphetamines?

Answer: Signs of amphetamine misuse can include:

    • Behavioral Changes: Increased agitation, hyperactivity, or aggression.
    • Physical Symptoms: Rapid heartbeat, dry mouth, excessive sweating, and dilated pupils.
    • Mental Health Symptoms: Paranoia, hallucinations, and anxiety.
    • Lifestyle Changes: Sudden changes in social circles, neglect of responsibilities, and financial problems due to purchasing drugs.

If you suspect misuse, it is important to approach the individual with care and seek professional help. Resources such as the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) offer guidance on how to handle such situations.

    3. Will my prescription for ADHD medication cause a positive drug test for amphetamines?

Answer: Yes, medications prescribed for ADHD, such as Adderall (amphetamine/dextroamphetamine), Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine), and Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine), can cause a positive drug test for amphetamines. It is important to inform the testing administrator about any prescription medications you are taking and provide documentation from your healthcare provider. This will help differentiate between legitimate medical use and illicit use.

    4. What are the potential health risks of long-term amphetamine misuse?

Answer: Long-term misuse of amphetamines can lead to several serious health risks, including:

    • Cardiovascular Issues: Increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and hypertension.
    • Mental Health Problems: Anxiety, paranoia, hallucinations, and psychosis.
    • Physical Health: Malnutrition, dental problems ("meth mouth"), and skin sores.
    • Dependence and Addiction: Chronic use can lead to dependency, requiring professional treatment for recovery.

Recognizing these risks is crucial for early intervention and seeking appropriate treatment. Resources like NIDA provide valuable information on the effects and treatment options for amphetamine misuse.

    5. How effective are instant home drug tests for detecting amphetamines?

Answer: Instant home drug tests for amphetamines are highly convenient and provide quick results, often within minutes. They are designed to be user-friendly, making them accessible for anyone to administer. When used correctly, these tests offer accurate detection of amphetamines, helping to identify recent drug use efficiently. While laboratory-based tests are more comprehensive, home tests are a reliable first step in screening and can be followed up with lab confirmation if needed. The combination of convenience, speed, and accuracy makes instant home drug tests a valuable tool for families, small businesses, and schools looking to maintain a drug-free environment.
